SMART Lagoon Treatment

SMART Lagoon Treatment Proven to Reduce Sludge and Eliminate Odor

The Clearbrooke SMART Program provides a customized treatment plan using our products, equipment setup, operator training, and ongoing technical guidance to help municipalities improve lagoon performance and reduce costly maintenance issues.

0 Odor Complaints

reported two years after treatment began (previously averaging 6 annually)

25% Sludge Reduction

in the first year of treatment

Improved effluent DO

From 7.1 to 9.9 mg/L

Observed in a third-party Northern Michigan lagoon field study

Results shown include findings from a third-party field evaluation conducted at a Northern Michigan wastewater lagoon, where measurable improvements in dissolved oxygen, ORP, sludge reduction, and odor control were documented.

What is the smart program?

SMART (System Management Across Regional Territories) is Clearbrooke’s wastewater lagoon support program designed for municipalities located outside our traditional ONSITE service region.

Unlike our ONSITE lagoon management program — where our team services lagoons regularly throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois — the SMART Program allows municipalities anywhere to receive ongoing lagoon treatment support and technical guidance without requiring regular, frequent onsite visits.

The SMART Program combines:

  • Customized lagoon treatment plans
  • Clearbrooke enzyme-based treatment products
  • Equipment setup assistance
  • Operator training and support resources
  • Annual reporting and recommendations
  • Annual onsite visits, with additional visits when needed and possible
  • Ongoing phone and technical support

to help municipalities improve lagoon performance, reduce sludge accumulation, eliminate odor issues, and lower long-term maintenance costs.

Clearbrooke Products

Clearbrooke Products Backed by Proven Results

Clearbrooke’s proprietary enzyme-based lagoon treatment products have been trusted by municipalities for more than twenty years.

Our eco-friendly formulations are designed to:

  • Reduce sludge accumulation
  • Eliminate lagoon odors
  • Improve lagoon performance
  • Reduce maintenance demands
  • Support long-term lagoon health
  • Improve DO

The effectiveness of our products was independently evaluated through a two-year third-party field study conducted at a Northern Michigan wastewater lagoon. The study documented measurable improvements in dissolved oxygen (DO), oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), and overall lagoon conditions following treatment.

  • Third-Party Field Study Results:
  • Measured improvements included:
  • Influent DO: 2.4 to 7.5 mg/L
  • Influent ORP: -123.9 to +28.0 mV
  • Effluent DO: 7.1 to 9.9 mg/L

Why Dissolved Oxygen Matters

Higher dissolved oxygen levels help support the biological processes that wastewater lagoons depend on for treatment. Improved DO can contribute to better lagoon performance, healthier biological activity, reduced odors, and more stable operation throughout the year.
